Two programs and how they present body image

My mad Fat Diary
Series 2
Clip 7
9:15 Minutes

This show is all about an over weight girl who has been in a mental house for about 4 months due to cutting herself . As she feels insucure about her appearance . She hasn't seen her friends in 4 months so she is trying to fit back in.

In this short clip the audience are able to see Rae the main character is unstable and has to go to a group session with other people like her. To talk about their feelings. It shows the audience Rae feels insecure about herself , and feels she can't be fixed. The lighting is high key to represent the session is mean't to be a happy place for the people to go plus it emphasises its day time. As the clip continues there is a point of view shot of the knife Rae is holding. This gives the audience an insight in to how Rae is feeling and want she is thinking of doing. In the background behind Rae's head there is just white . This makes the audience feel it represents a hospital and where Rae will end up it she harms herself. As she opens the letter the lighting goes to high key to show her feelings towards the letter and how the people who wrote it means a lot to her. This makes the audience feel she has changed her mind about cutting herself due to this letter.

Comparing two different media's for one event

The Guardian

Missing flight MH370: no sightings of possible plane debris

  • Australia releases satellite images of objects in Indian Ocean
  • Analysts say the images could relate to missing plane
  • One of objects shows a 24m (79ft) long piece
  • First search missions end with no sighting of debris
  • Crew of Norwegian car carrier scour area with binoculars
  • Malaysia says northern search continues

The audience for this newspaper is for upper class people . They would be associated in group B to C.This newspaper includes more facts and details about the plane rather than having lots of photos. This is because the upper class people are associated to have more qualifications and prefer to read more rather than look at photos.Visual codes which are being used are bold black title this is so you can see straight away what the newspaper article is about. Plus all the text is in black to show how important what  they are reading is.The target audience would be people from the age of 30 - 50. I feel this age would be able to understand the text well plus people younger would want to see more photos and less text . Where as older people would rather be able to read about the plane.

Representation

Baby Face Brides

Age
The show is called 'Baby Face Brides' , this instantly represents all the brides as babies. This is influencing the audience too feel its negative to be a bride who is young.

Gender
In the show 'Baby Face Brides ' , the women are being presented to want it more than the men. Also they fit in to the stereo type of young girls , dying their hair bright , wearing lots of make up , and liking the colours pink and etc for their wedding. Also the program is presenting the girls as indecisive as they keep changing their minds on colours themes for the wedding. This makes the audience believe they are too young to stick to one thing , they can't make up their mind. As well as this the program is presenting the girls to look lower class in the way they dress and how they have their bra's hanging out . This is typical for young girls to have low cut tops on and bra's out. This influences the audience to feel the girls aren't ready to get married as they are still typical young girls.

The males are being represented as a typical young lad , they let the women take control and they just let everyone else do everything, for example one of the lads uses his mothers ring. This gives off the feel he can't stand on his own two feet he still needs his parents. Plus they are not shown to have a job and they fit into the stereo type of chavs . They wear the typical clothes a 'chavs' wears , hoodies and etc.
